World War Virtual

The US Military’s unsettling new vision:
using videogames, Hollywood films, theme parks and Star Trek
to train and recruit the soldiers of tomorrow.

This documentary exposes a growing American military-entertainment complex, revealing the close relationships the military have developed with the commercial videogame industry and Hollywood, in order to create “compelling” tools for recruiting and training purposes. At times of war and low recruitment numbers, the US Military uses games – and entertainment in general – as marketing tools.

One of the new visions of the US Army for training and future war-fighting is to re-create in reality the science fiction virtual space “Holodeck” from Star Trek, where anything is possible. Reality and virtual reality, war and entertainment become dangerously blurred,
causing confusion and paranoia that threaten our very sanity and any hopes of future peacemaking. After all, is war just a game?
